چکیده

A damping device, consisting of an annular tail-pipe, has been developed. It is applicable in situations wherein acoustic damping is required in combination with low flow resistance. Examples are ventilation systems, turboengines, intake and exhaust systems for internal combustion engines. The device consists of a central tube surrounded by a narrow slit. The central tube has an acoustic mass which impedance increases with frequency. When the frequency has been increased sufficiently, a considerable part of the acoustic flow passes through the slit where it will be damped. In this way, acoustic energy can be dissipated while the flow experiances a low flow resistance. The acoustic properties of the device will be investigated using an electrical equivalent model. The impedance will be measured using an impedance measurement duct. The slit resistance will be identified and the damping mechanism will be investigate qualitatively. As result, the slit resistance consists of a linear part, which depends on the air viscosity, and a non-linear part, wherein the loss of kinetic energy of the moving fluidum through the slit causes acoustic damping.

Effect of porosity on the characteristics of underwater acoustic sound absorbers using theoretical models‎

Porous materials have good acoustic damping characteristics over a wide frequency range. As for sound waves, many small-scale pores in the coating materials can convert underwater-coating to rough surfaces. The main property of porous absorbents is their resistance against incident sound wave that leads to damping effect. From a physical point of view, damping occurs due to friction between flu...

A Numerical Study of the Effect of Aspect Ratio on Heat Transfer in an Annular Flow Through a 270-Degree Curved Pipe.

In the present paper, a three dimensional annular developing incompressible laminar flow through 270- degree curved pipe is numerically simulated. The dimensionless governing equations of continuity, momentums and energy are driven in toroidal coordinates. The governing equations are discretized by projection algorithm using forward difference in time and central difference in space. A three-di...

Damage Energy Evaluation in [55/-55]9 Composite Pipes using Acoustic Emission Method

In this study, the longitudinal and hoop tensile strengths of an industrial ±55° Glass Reinforced Epoxy (GRE) pipe with eighteen layers as well as the associated failure mechanisms are determined. To obtain the longitudinal and hoop tensile strengths values, three specimens are cut from the studied GRE pipe in each direction. A comparison is done between both the strength values, and the fractu...

The Overall Heat Transfer Characteristics of a Double Pipe Heat Exchanger: Comparison of Experimental Data with Predictions of Standard Correlations

The single-phase flow and thermal performance of a double pipe heat exchanger are examined by experimental methods. The working fluid is water at atmospheric pressure. Temperature measurements at the inlet and outlet of the two streams and also at an intermediate point half way between the inlet and outlet is made, using copper-constantan thermocouple wires. Mass flow rates for each stream are ...
